The Year of Russian Cinema-2016: The exhibition “This film is calling into space” is opened in the Museum of the History of Cosmonautic in Kaluga

February 24, 2016 in the K. E. Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics (Kaluga) in the framework of the Year of Russian cinema is held the exhibition "This film is calling into space". The exhibition is devoted to the 80th anniversary of the screens of sci-fi movie "Space flight", which was a scientific consultant of Konstantin Tsiolkovsky.

The basis of the exhibition is memories of authors about their meetings with K. E. Tsiolkovsky and work together on the film "Space flight"; materials of the preserved correspondence of Tsiolkovsky and director V. N. Zhuravlev, as well as documentary materials, photographs, books, and video footage stored in the archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art, Concern "Mosfilm", the Tsiolkovsky Museum, items from private collections of A. E. Yevstigneyev.

Among the exhibits - the scenery sketches for the film, made by an artist Yuri Shvets, unique editions of books of K. E.  Tsiolkovsky.

The premiere of the first Soviet science fiction film about the conquest of "Space flight" space was held on January 21, 1936. The work on the films was carried out by "Mosfilm" in 1933-1935s. The screenplay was written by A. A. Filimonov and with the participation of the scientific advice of Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, who prepared for the film "Space Travel Album" and a number of other materials. When making the film and authors have used science fiction written by scientists.

With the help of Tsiolkovsky, using models and stop-motion animation, great scenery and specially designed for the film technical devices, the filmmakers managed to create a surprisingly realistic for its time now travel to the moon - long before it was the beginning of a real space exploration.

The exhibition will run till April 3, 2016.
