Society and culture: The exhibition of illustrations “Anna Akhmatova and Rabindranath Tagore” in the Library of Foreign Literature in Moscow

February 2, 2016 in the Marble Hall of the Library of Foreign Literature (Moscow) is opened an exhibition of illustrations of Elena Shipitsova "Anna Akhmatova and Rabindranath Tagore". This exhibition has been prepared by the Exhibition Centre of the Library as part of the exhibition project "The artist and the word" and is timed to the 50th anniversary of the death of a famous Russian poet Anna Akhmatova. 

The largest of the XX century poet, literary critic, Anna Akhmatova left a rich musical legacy, an important place which occupies poetic translations. She has translated the works of 150 poets from 78 languages.

The exhibition presents a series of graphic drawings of Elena Shipitsova - selected illustrations of Anna Akhmatova's translations of the great Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore.

Rabindranath Tagore - Indian writer, poet, composer, artist, social activist. His work has had a significant influence on the literature and music of Bengal. He was the first among non-Europeans, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature (1913). Translations of his poetry were seen as spiritual literature and, together with his charisma, Tagore created an image of the prophet in the West. Tagore's poems today are the anthems of India and Bangladesh.

Elena Shipitsova - Moscow graphic artist, member of the Artists Union of Russia, the Russian Union of Journalists. Author of hundreds of publications in periodicals, two dozen illustrated books, a member of more than one hundred exhibitions, including personal, in Russia and abroad.

The exhibition will run till February 26, 2016.
