
History and culture: The book exhibition “Bronze doors of Sofia of Novgorod” is presented in the regional library
Until March 28, 2016 in the Department of Regional Studies of the Novgorod Regional Universal Scientific Library is running a book exhibition "The bronze doors of Sofia of Novgorod", dedicated to the publication of the book by A. N. Trifonova "Doors of Sofia of Novgorod" (Velikiy Novgorod, 2015).

The exhibition contains 30 titles that contain materials on the study and description of the doors of St. Sophia Cathedral. Most of the research is dedicated to the bronze doors of Sofia of Novgorod, the so-called Magdeburg or Sigtunsky and Korsun gates. This is a book on the history and culture of Veliky Novgorod, as well as books on art.
The bronze gates of St. Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod - works of decorative art belonging to the architectural and artistic ensemble of the Novgorod Sofia. Magdeburg gates were made in the XII century in Magdeburg by German masters commissioned by Bishop Wichmann of Magdeburg, and then transferred to the Polish city Plottsk. For centuries, historians are exploring the monument, including the answer to the question of how the gates appeared in Novgorod. Now this monument is a bronze casting of the XII century decorates the western entrance to the temple.
Korsun gates were brought to Novgorod immediately after the completion of construction of St. Sophia Cathedral, near the middle of the XI century. Originally they were established, probably in the west gallery of the cathedral. At the moment the gates open the entrance to the chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin.
