International events: The USA gave Russia 28 unique archival documents
At the residence of the Ambassador of the United States of America in Moscow took place a solemn ceremony of handing over the Russian Federation of archival documents of Russian origin, found be specialists of Immigration and Customs investigations by the US Department of Homeland Security.
Documents of the XVIII-XX centuries, stolen from the Russian archives in the 1980s - 2000s, were found during the investigations, which were conducted by the US Department of Homeland Security in the period from 2006 to 2012. Historical values have been put up for sale by auction houses, art galleries, and private collectors.
This event was the sixth event of this kind. Among the 28 most valuable historical documents given to Russia:
- 4 imperial decrees taken by the Ministry of Culture of Russia «Leonard Auction» Auction. These documents were stolen in 1994 from the Russian State Historical Archive in St. Petersburg and smuggled into the United States;
- 17 pictures of the architect J. G. Chernihov kidnapped in 2003-2006 from the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art in Moscow and subsequently seized by US authorities from the sale of the American antiques market;
- The order of People's Commissar of Defence of the USSR Stalin on March 14, 1944 № 23, shot in 2012 at auction house «Nate D. Sanders Auction» (Los Angeles). The document has been stolen from the Russian State Military Archive in Moscow.
