To the 55th anniversary of the first manned space flight: The exhibition “Thus the legend began” in Kaliningrad

April 12, 2016 in the Kaliningrad Regional History and Art Museum is opened the exhibition "Thus the legend began" dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the first manned flight into space. This exhibition tells the story of the pages of the study and exploration of outer space. The central theme of the exposition is one of the most important events in the history of mankind. April 12, 1961 Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to space flight. The ship "East", he circled the globe for 1 hour and 48 minutes and returned safely to Earth. Thus began the era of manned space flight. Yuri Gagarin became a legend during his lifetime, but with honor he has passed the test of fame. 

Yuri Gagarin’s cosmonauts-followers began to actively "storm" the new star heights. And on March 18, 1965 the man first stepped into the open space. It was a man from Kaliningrad - Alexei Leonov.

More than a thousand exhibits, telling about the history of Russian cosmonautics, are stored in the collections of the Kaliningrad Regional History and Art Museum. The pride of the museum - a rich collection of materials dedicated to cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, Yuri Romanenko, Victor Patsaev, Alexander Victorenko. The exhibition "Thus the legend began" the museum visitors can see rare photographs and documents, as well as real things that were in space with Alexei Leonov and Yuri Romanenko, - on-board first aid kit and flashlight with "Soyuz-19", a pen for work in conditions of weightlessness, signal mortar, pressurized helmet, headset, gloves, tubes with space food.

The exhibition will run until the end of April 2016.
