History and culture: The exhibition “Sergei Gerasimov” is held within the program “The State Tretyakov Gallery opens its stores”

The exhibition "Sergei Gerasimov. Watercolor, charcoal, sanguine" runs until 21 August 2016 within the program "The State Tretyakov Gallery opens its stores".

Sergey Gerasimov (1885-1964) - author of the program works, a classic of Soviet art in the first half of the XX century. He is known primarily as an outstanding painter, a subtle colorist.

Most graphics work since the organization of the personal exhibition to the 100th anniversary of the artist were not available to the attention of a wide audience. Thus, drawing skills of Gerasimov put him in some of the largest graphic artists of the XX century. The exhibition presents watercolors and drawings of S. V. Gerasimov from the collection of the Gallery.

The collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery is a large reservoir of graphic heritage of Sergei Gerasimov. Here are almost all periods of his work: prerevolutionary watercolors; charcoal drawings and paintings made sanguine, 1920; illustrations for the works of Russian classics, especially the poem Nekrasov "Who Lives Well in Russia"; watercolors of 1941-1943 period, made on the way to the evacuation and back to Moscow (the series "Moscow - Samarkand" and "Samarkand - Moscow"), and most recent watercolors, executed in the early 1960s.

The museum has a little less than 170 works by the artist. Collection of Gerasimov drawings began to be gathered in the Gallery since 1926, when the author made two charcoal drawing "Landscape with a pond" of 1923-1924 and "Evening" in 1925. From the artist to the museum there were received about 120 drawings and watercolors. After the death of Gerasimov the collection of his schedules continues to grow thanks to the artist's family and collectors.
