World history: The exhibition, dedicated to the work of scouts during “the cold war”, in Saint-Petersburg
June 17, 2016 in St. Petersburg, in a branch of the Museum of Political History of Russia "Gorokhovaya, 2. History of the political police and state security bodies of Russia. XIX-XX centuries", took place the opening of the exhibition "The Scout A. Feklisov: "hot" routine of "Cold War" in the framework of the project "The Man "classified".
Soviet legal scout, Hero of Russia Alexander S. Feklisov (1914-2007) was a direct participant in a number of important events of the XX century, international politics.
The exhibition is based on the original photos, documents and objects from the personal archives of A. S. Feklisov.
From 1941 to 1946 A. S. Feklisov was under the "cover" in the position of vice-consul, the Third Secretary of the USSR Consulate General in New York. He got valuable information about the American developments in electronics, military aircraft, sighting systems, radio and engineer technology.
In 1940s Feklisov had to work in the conditions of the emergence of a new type of weapon - a nuclear bomb. With the most valuable of the Soviet foreign intelligence agent, physicist Klaus Fuchs, he was able to get the materials for the development of US nuclear weapons. Visitors will see a photo of the place of the first meeting Feklisov and Fuchs in London, coat, where the scout went to a meeting with an agent, the documents that allowed the American and British secret services to unmask Fuchs.
In October 1962, when it became the United States and the Soviet Union threat of use of nuclear weapons, and the world stood on the brink of World War III, A. Feklisov became a direct participant in the Cuban missile crisis resolution. The restaurant "Occidental" in the course of two meetings a resident of Soviet intelligence in Washington A. Feklisov (alias Fomin) and John Scali, a famous American journalist, discussed the potential impact of the crisis. Immediate connection between the two world leaders through A. S. Feliksov and J. Scali allowed finding a compromise. Photo of a table where the meeting of A. Feklisov and J. Scali took place and suitcase «SAMSONITE», with whom A. Feklisov flew to Moscow to report on the events of the Cuban Missile Crisis, will help to recreate the tense situation in those days. Questions of contemporary assessment of Scout involvement in the resolution of the Cuban missile crisis will be presented in the book by McGeorge Bundy "Risk and survival" with an inscription J. Scali to A. S. Feklisov.
