History of Russia: The book-illustrative exhibition “Praise to you, Suvorov!” in Saint-Petersburg
June 1, 2016 in the hall Korf of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg) was opened the book-illustrative exhibition "Praise to you, Suvorov!".
The exhibition includes rare editions of the XIX - early XX centuriesfrom the NLR collections telling about the genius of the Russian general, as well as about the history of the memorial museum.
Visitors can see at the exhibition the very first biography, written by the adjutant of the great commander Friedrich Anting "Victory of Prince of Italy, Count Alexander Suvorov Rymniksky, or His life and deeds against Prussia, Turkey, Poland and France: From some of his letters and anecdotes, showing the nature of the and the genius of his great man" (Moscow, 1815), the famous "Science of Victory" and "Collection of combat instructions and orders" by Suvorov (St. Petersburg, 1868), "Eight rescripts of the Emperor Paul I, Suvorov" (St. Petersburg, 1849) and other valuable editions.
None of the Russian figures of the second half of the XVIII century did not to excite the imagination of his contemporaries, like Suvorov. Life and victory of the Great Russian commander, who did not lose a single battle, served as a subject for numerous works of art, music, literature. Among the exhibits - rare musical collections, musical publications, albums and pictures.
The exhibition also presents publications about the museum, including the first guide "Inventory monuments and subjects in a temporary building of the Suvorov museum". You can also see the periodicals of the 1950s., on the pages of which were deployed discussions about the reconstruction of the museum, modern editions of A. V. Suvorov, jubilee and commemorative items and medals.
The exhibition is organized by specialists of the Suvorov State Memorial Museum and the National Library of Russia.
The exposition will run until July 10.
