World history: Exhibition "Angels of Mercy" to the 102nd anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War in Moscow

Within the framework of events dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the First World War (1914-1918.), the State Public Historical Library of Russia (Moscow) until August 25, 2016 presents an exhibition of books and magazines "Angels of Mercy", dedicated to the activities of the Sisters of Charity to provide wounded in the theater of operations and in the rear. 

History of the First World War is replete with heroic pages and one of them is inscribed by women, sisters of mercy of the Russian Red Cross Society. In the rear and at the fronts of the Great War worked tens of thousands of the Sisters of Charity, among whom were representatives of all classes, many aristocratic families, members of the Imperial family. This exhibition is a tribute and respect of the feat of self-sacrifice, courage, self-sacrifice, the height of the spirit of these women.

The exposition tells about the organization of medical aid to the wounded, the military doctors and medical staff heroism during the war. Among the materials - published diaries, letters, memoirs of physicians and the Sisters of Charity, articles from periodicals of the time ("Red Cross Bulletin", "Women and War", "Women's business", "Ilya Muromets", "Curved seashore", "The Sun of Russia" and others), dedicated to the topic, as well as contemporary research of historians.

The design of the exhibition uses photographs and magazine graphics of war years.
