Culture and society: The festival of people’s shipbuilding and shipping “Kizhi regatta” was opened in Karelia
International festival of traditional shipbuilding and shipping "Kizhi regatta" was opened on August 3 on the island of Kizhi in Karelia.
The festival will last for five days. For seventeen years the organizer of the festival is the Museum-Reserve "Kizhi".
The aim of the event is the preservation and continuation of the national shipbuilding and shipping traditions, promotion of healthy lifestyles.
At the festival, dedicated to the traditional shipbuilding and shipping, visitors can see such unique exhibits as the boat-belozyorka, fofanka, vereyka, dolblyonka, birch bark canoes and shverboat.
Also within the event will take place the boat racing. It will be attended by more than fifty teams from Russia, Bulgaria and Finland, on traditional and modern boats.
The guests will be entertained by folk ensembles and masters will share their knowledge and will hold open lessons on traditional crafts. Several historical reconstructions of battles are also planned, which took place on Lake Onega.
