World culture: Exhibition "Rafael. Image Poetry" in Moscow
The Pushkin Museum (Moscow) together with the Uffizi Gallery (Florence) from September 13, 2016 represent the first in Russia exhibition of works by Raphael - one of the greatest artists in the history of world art.
Eight paintings and three drawings arrived at the Pushkin Museum from museums in Italy. Among them - "Self Portrait" (1506), which is stored in the Gallery of statues and paintings (Uffizi Gallery), paired portraits of Agnolo Doni and his wife Maddalena (1506), and "Madonna del Granduca" (1505) from the Palatine Gallery, which also recently part of the Uffizi Gallery.
Particular attention is paid to the exhibition of portrait painting by Raphael. The artist has created a new type of Renaissance portraits, which depicted a person endowed with recognizable features of a specific person, and appears as a generalized image of his time. The designs of the master, embodied in the portraits are revealed in comparison with samples of modern poetry Rafael - presented in the context of the exhibition texts Balthazar Castiglione, Antonio Tebaldeo, Lodovico Dolce, as well as in the poetic works of Raphael.
The proposed crossing curators of the exhibition with the theme and literature affect the perception of creativity Raphael in Russian culture. Many Russian poets expressed their admiration for the artist in verse, including Derzhavin and Pushkin, who spoke to Rafael repeatedly, starting with his early poem "Monk" and ending with the late works.
Rafael creativity, in full accordance with the spirit of the Renaissance actualize the conquest of classical antiquity, remains one of the highest achievements of European culture, without ceasing to be relevant in our day. In 2020, all over the world will be celebrated the 500th anniversary of the death of Raphael Santi. The exhibition in the Pushkin Museum will be the first in a series of significant events dedicated to this date.
