Memory of Russia abroad: The exhibition "Osip Mandelstam. Word and destiny", dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the poet, in Spain
September 9, 2016 in the Center of Federico García Lorca in Granada (Spain) is opened the exhibition "Osip Mandelstam. Word and destiny", dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the poet.
The exhibition is prepared by the State Literary Museum, together with Mandelstam society and is a continuation and development of the exhibition project "I'll tell you the last frankness…", which was introduced in the I. S. Ostroukhov House from 25 December to 27 March this year. At the exhibition you can see the books, manuscripts, documents, memorial items related to the life and work of Mandelstam, from the funds of the State Literary Museum, as well as a number of major archives, libraries and Russian museums and private collections.
The individual exhibits - manuscripts, documents from the University of Heidelberg, where Mandelstam studied, copies of documents from the KGB archives – have never been on display. Also for the first time it demonstrates the couch where Mandelstam had rest, from the office by V.B. Shklovsky, edition of "The Divine Comedy" by Dante, owned by N. Y. Mandelstam.
From May to July the exhibition was displayed at the Friedrich Ebert Cultural Center in Heidelberg (Germany), which caused a wide resonance. July 15 took place the presentation of the album catalog, published on the materials of the exhibition in German and Spanish. The project is part of the European program "UNESCO Cities of Literature", which brings together both Heidelberg and Granada.
