Memorable dates of Russia: Exhibition "Bulgakov. Two biographies" to the 125th anniversary of the writer opens in Moscow
October 28, 2016 in the space of the exhibition hall "New Manege" (Moscow) is opened the exhibition "Bulgakov. Two biographies". It will be the central event of the official celebration of the 125th anniversary of the great writer. Curators of the Bulgakov Museum brought together more than 700 exhibits, unique materials from the archives and museum collections in Moscow and St. Petersburg, manuscripts, letters, paintings, models of theatrical scenery, autographs, photos and even documents the OGPU, who has followed the author of "The Master and Margarita" and "Heart of a Dog".
Part of the exhibition will be recreated in the space of the "New Manege" the third Moscow apartment of Bulgakov lost with demolished in the late 1970s to house 3/5 in Nashchyokinsky lane. Disposition of the interiors of apartments will be restored from the surviving photographs, drawings and recollections of friends of the writer. In his only his own apartment Bulgakov lived for six years: here until his last days, he worked on the novel "The Master and Margarita", has created a novel "Notes of the deceased" (also known as "Theatrical Novel"), and the play "Batum", narrating the early years of Stalin.
Exhibition area - almost one and a half thousand square meters. The first part is devoted to the theater: the play "Days of the Turbins", "Crimson Island", "Zoyka flat" and "Moliere" staged on the best stages of the country. Visitors "will step" behind the scenes of the Moscow Art Theatre and the Bolshoi will be able to trace the history of plays and the fight against the Soviet censorship, will meet with the actor and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov - in 1935 he played the role of the President of the Court in the play "The Pickwick Club" based on the eponymous novel by Charles Dickens.
The second part of the exhibition tells about the "independent life" of works by Bulgakov. For years, the writer was not published and his prose was called "anti-Soviet". Publication in the 60's "Master and Margarita" has brought his name world famous - works of Bulgakov have got into the school curriculum, have been translated into dozens of languages, the best artists, theater and film directors, writers took up the interpretation of his works and quotes have become part of the cultural code.
As part of the exhibition project it is planned educational program of lectures, panel discussions, author "virtual" tours and film screenings. In the lecture hall of Gostiny Dvor will be held a meeting with invited experts - literary critics, historians and philosophers of the theater, and in the exhibition space of "New Manege" - movie nights.
"Project "Bulgakov. Two biographies" is a vivid example of inter-museum cooperation. Creating the architecture and exhibition design, the team "Manege" worked in permanent creative contact with the curators of the Museum of Bulgakov.
