Museums and Society: The exhibition "The Museum Detective" opens at the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg

27 October 2016

On October 27, 2016 to January 11, 2017 at the Peter and Paul Fortress (exhibition hall at Johann Ravelin) is held an exhibition "Museum Detective", dedicated to one of the most interesting areas of the museum - the study of museum objects, which often look like a real investigation. The exhibition shows the museum's work "from within", that its side which is hidden from the eyes of general public exhibitions and expositions, which deal only with the result - museum exhibits, labels and annotations.

For the daily work of museum specialists is often hidden exciting action-packed history. By establishing the authorship of works of art, their exact dating, place of origin, objects, researchers, restorers and curators of the museum doing a job, it is comparable with the activity of Miss Marple, Commissioner Maigret, Hercule Poirot and Sherlock Holmes…

The visitors are presented about 20 detective investigations, in the center of which there are exhibits from the collections of the State Museum of History of St. Petersburg: propaganda posters, pictures, paintings and drawings, wardrobe items, antique home furnishings and others.
