
Memory of Russia abroad: On the island of Saaremaa have been established a plaque "to father of Russian photo essay" Karl Bulla
On the island of Saaremaa in Estonia have been established a memorial plaque in memory of one of the most famous photographers of tsarist Russia Karl Bulla.
He is considered the first Russian photojournalist and founder of this genre. Bull also was the personal photographer of the royal family. After the revolution, he moved to the island of Saaremaa, where he died in 1929. The museum collections of the Saaremaa Museum - hundreds of pictures by Karl Bulla and in the History of St. Petersburg, the archive has more than 238 000 of his works.
"This man has left a historical legacy that not one of photographers, photo reporters and photographers left not only in Russia but also in Estonia. This person is present in all editions, which represent the historical memory of the art of photography, nothing like Karl Bulla on its scale of operations, the scale of the artistic heritage, there is no one like Bulla", - said the president of the Karl Bulla Historical Photo Foundation Valentin Elbek.
