
Peoples of Russia: Exhibition "World of Nivkhs", telling about the culture of one of the indigenous peoples of the North, at the State Russian Museum
The State Russian Museum (St. Petersburg) jointly with the Sakhalin Regional Art Museum present the exhibition "World of Nivkhs", opening one of the oldest cultures of indigenous peoples of the North. Ethnic name - "Nivkh" in translation into Russian means "man", "living in my village". This small nation - the direct descendants of the ancient population of Sakhalin and the lower reaches of the Amur. Roots of Nivkh fine and decorative arts are deeply rooted in folk art, retain elements of local folklore, ornament, traditional range of colors.
Sublime theme of unity of man and nature in the paintings of the first Nivkh painter Sergei Gurko, subtle watercolor of landscapes by Lydia Kims, graphics and illustrations to the local epic by Givi Mantkava, sculptural images by Anatoly Nee and the works of other artists reflect the originality of the creative heritage of the nation.
