Internet and History: Online project and exhibition to the 250th anniversary of N. M. Karamzin in the Pskov Regional Scientific Library
December 12, 2016 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Karamzin - an outstanding writer, publisher, historian. His role in the development of the Russian language, literature, history of science cannot be overemphasized.
To the 250th anniversary of the great writer and historian the Pskov Regional Universal Scientific Library launched an online project dedicated to Pskov in the pages of "The History of the Russian State" by Karamzin. Since Pskov is mentioned in the context of nationwide events, the mention of the Pskov facts, names and realities are scattered throughout the huge text.
Section that is located on the library's website contains excerpts from "History of…" related or mentioning the Pskov land. Selection introduces the source, which is a lot of talk, but not so often re-read of 12 priceless volumes.
Volumes, like the author, are in chronological order, which will find the specific events and periods of time
The Regional Centre for the rare and valuable documents for the anniversary of N. M. Karamzin presents an exhibition of books of his fund to "To bear flattery in my tongue".
Among the curiosities is the earliest date of publication of the journal "Contemporary" - 1837.
Drawings of the artist Dobuzhinsky are executed along with facsimile edition of 1921 "Poor Liza" –- the first Russian sentimental story.
Visitors of the exhibition can get acquainted with the poems of Karamzin, his journalistic writings and arguments, including in letters to fellow literary works published in different years in which Karamzin presents his social and literary views.
"History of the Russian State" is presented in several editions. Published in St. Petersburg in 1842 in the printing by Eduard Praca, decorated with a color portrait of the author, engraved on steel in London, and equipped with maps and notes. The same printing press in 1844 Eynerling released "Key or Index to the History of the Russian State by N. M. Karamzin, compiled and is now complemented by P. Stroyev, and twenty-four composed by Karamzin and Stroyev genealogical tables of Russian pronces" with maps and tables.
The publication "History of…" 1851 Smirdin famous printing house in St. Petersburg went into a series of "Complete Collection of Russian authors' works". This edition has fixed the value of Karamzin's work for the history of literature in Russia.
