History of Russia: Exhibition "V. Komissarzhevskaya, V. Meyerhold" in St. Petersburg

12 January 2017

The exhibition "V. Komissarzhevskaya, V. Meyerhold" is opened at the A. A. Blok Museum-Apartment (St. Petersburg).

The exhibition presents materials from the collection of the State Museum of History of St. Petersburg: photos, books, illustrations, and others.

Among them - the collector’s finds of N. P. Ilyin: authentic portraits of Komissarzhevskaya, her letter to the unknown, illustrations to the lyrical drama by A. A. Blok "Puppet Show" of N. P. Dmitrevsky (1922), N. V. Rozanova (1925), K. K. Sokolov (1956, 1986).

The books from the library of V. N. Orlov: pre-revolutionary editions of 1920-1930s are also exhibited. They are the biography of Vsevolod Meyerhold, written by his friend N. D. Volkov (1929); theoretical work of the director "About the Theatre" (1913); a complete collection of issues published by the magazine "The Love for Three Oranges" by Meyerhold (1914-1916), in which Blok has been assigned the role responsible for the poetry section - another example of fruitful cooperation.

Among the exhibits - donated to the museum by the outstanding performer of works of A. A. Blok, V. A. Larionov, the notebook "In Memory of V. F. Komissarzhevskaya" with pasted clippings from various publications of 1910, responded to the news of the great actress's death.

Along with the original materials, an important informative function is performed by a copy of the photos and drawings made for the A. A. Blok Museum-Apartment before its opening in 1980. The most interesting ones are: V. F. Komissarzhevskaya’s image of the theater building on the Ofitserskaya street (not extant) and copies of costumes, designed by the artist N. N. Sapunov in 1906 for the production of "Puppet Show".
