Regions of Russia: The Altai Regional Universal Scientific Library launched the project "Perceiving Altai"

February 1, 2017 in the V. Y. Shishkov Altai Regional Universal Scientific Library (Barnaul) began a large-scale and long-lasting cultural and educational project "Perceiving Altai", aimed at the study of the history of the region. It was a logical continuation of a series of local history lectures, which were held in 2016 on the basis of the library.

Cultural and educational project "Perceiving Altai" is created and will be implemented with the participation of three parties: the Ministry of Education and Science of the Altai Territory, the V. Y. Shishkov Altai Regional Universal Scientific Library and the Altai Economics Institute (St. Petersburg University of Technology of Management and Economics). Documentary base of the project will be the library, museum and archive documents. "Perceiving Altai" project will consist of several thematic courses of lectures.

The first course, which runs from 1 February to 12 April, will be the "Ancient Metallurgy in Western Siberia": the course is devoted to the history of industrial development of the south of Western Siberia in the XVIII-XIX centuries. Lectures will be held at the site of the Altai regional libraries and in the Altai Institute of Economics. The course will be listened by students of 10 grades of Barnaul that will participate directly in lectures, in-line format for meetings joined by students from other schools of the regional center, administrative and economic centers that have grown out of workers' settlements of old mines and factories in the modern Altai Territory. It is planned that in the year will be held 2 courses: February-April and September-November. Lectures will be supplemented by the traditional format of local history tours, including – on the territory Barnaul silver plant and for remote areas organizers will offer video tours. The final stage of each course of lectures will be on-line testing.

As part of the project it is expected the inter-regional cooperation: the lectures will be connected to regional centers of the Presidential Library in Kemerovo and Novosibirsk - a territory which history is closely linked with the history of the Altai Territory.
