The peoples of Russia: Textbook in native languages of indigenous peoples of the North to be created in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area
In the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area has begun the work on the preparation of textbooks in native languages of indigenous peoples of the North.
It has been decided to establish a working group, which will include linguists, teachers and other experts. First it is planned to gather feedback on the new Khanty-mantiyskom alphabet and consider the possibility of its implementation. It will also be prepared recommendations and curricula for teaching languages of the peoples of the Far North. In addition, this year the region plans to hold two educational events: "We speak in their mother tongue" and "Frontal dictation".
Several years ago, it has been running a pilot project for the study of native languages and it continues to be put into practice in the rural areas of Yugra.
About thirty percent of students from among the representatives of small nations teach their native language. Some seniors even plan to choose to take the exam in their native language.
