History of Russia: The exhibition "Callsign "Seagull", dedicated to Valentina Tereshkova, in Kaluga

March 3, 2017 in the K. E. Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics (Kaluga) is opening the exhibition "Callsign "Seagull", dedicated to the anniversary of the Hero of the Soviet Union,the Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova. The exhibition is organized jointly by the museum and the V. V. Tereshkova cultural and educational center (Yaroslavl).

The exhibition features photographs and documents devoted to the history of the flight of the first female astronaut, her social activities, visiting the Kaluga Space Museum, documents, books, and personal items and gifts by Valentina Vladimirovna.

The exhibition tells of the brightest events in the life of Valentina Tereshkova, which is inextricably linked to the history of space exploration. Having performed in 1963, at the dawn of space exploration, a single flight into space, Valentina Tereshkova, not only for Russia but also for the whole world remains a symbol of a Russian woman capable of selfless feat.

One section of the exhibition is devoted to social and political activities of V. V. Tereshkova. The first woman-cosmonaut had the mission to become an ambassador of peace, uniting humanity in the pursuit of a life without war. It has always been at the center of social and political life of the country. Today Valentina Vladimirovna is a member of the State Duma, continuing active social and political activities.

The exhibition is designed for a wide range of visitors. Its main goal is to popularize the history of memorials of Soviet cosmonautics, acquaintance of visitors with the personality of the first female astronaut.
