The history of science: The exhibition, dedicated to the history of medical societies in Russia, is opened in Saint-Petersburg
The Military Medical Museum (St. Petersburg) opens a new exhibition "Distribute in the Fatherland all sorts of useful knowledge relating to medical science (to the history of medical societies in Russia)".
The Military Medical Museum starts a series of projects dedicated to the history of medicine. The exhibition tells about the most interesting phenomenon - the formation and activities of professional and scientific societies of Russian doctors.
Official medical associations appeared in our country in Saint-Petersburg and Moscow in the XVIII century. These societies were founded by German doctors and were closed and elitist. The first union of medical specialists in Russia was the Society of Russian Doctors, which was founded in 1833 in St. Petersburg. "Society of Russian doctors" acted in accordance with the democratic charter, fought for the development of national public medicine and was open to all doctors of the Russian Empire of any religion and origin. Among the exhibits the most interesting are the correspondence of the Russian Surgical Society Pirogov with the Ministry of Internal Affairs about the issuance of gold and silver medals, the regulations and documentation of the Leningrad Scientific Medical Society of Children's Doctors (including during the blockade) and medical instruments belonging to famous doctors and scientists - Members of medical societies.
The exhibition will run till the end of August 2017.
