This edition of G. Peretyatkovich is a continuation of the previous work devoted to the colonization of the region in the 15th-16th centuries. The present study of the development of the Volga region in the XVII-early XVIII centuries. shows the importance of the colonization process when settling the desert territories of the Russian Empire. The main material for the essays was handwritten documents, stored in the archives of the Ministry of Justice. In the appendix to the monograph excerpts from inventories of the second half of the 17th century contain valuable information about the average prosperity of the peasants of that time in some palace estates of the Volga region. The book consists of four chapters, including information on Sviyazhsky and Kazan counties, etc.
