On July 28 (August 9), 1820, Alexander Petrovich Andreev (1820–1882) was born. He was a military hydrograph, major-general (1880), lieutenant-general of the Corps of Naval Navigators (1881), one of the best hydrographs of the Russian Navy, the first researcher of Lake Ladoga and author of the first scientific monograph about it.

On September 8, 1941, a Siege ring was set around Leningrad. The Siege lasted until January 18, 1943, when the troops of the Leningrad and Volkhov fronts met near the southern shore of Lake Ladoga. A year later, on January 27, 1944, the Siege was finally lifted.

Car traffic launched along the legendary ice track – the “Road of Life”

On November 22, 1941, automobile traffic was launched along Military Highway № 101, which connected besieged Leningrad with the eastern shore - the “Big Land” - along the ice of Lake Ladoga. Considering the great strategic importance of transportation carried out along the road during the difficult period of the siege winter of 1941–1942, the ice route went down in history as the legendary “Road of Life”.

" - reads the 4-volume book “The History of the Hydrographic Service of the Russian Navy” (1997), which has recently become available on the portal of the Presidential Library.
