The Presidential Library about the siege: "It seems that you are immortal as a child..."

2019 is the year of the 75th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege. In this context, the Presidential Library, together with the newspaper Petersburg Diary and Radio Rossiya - St. Petersburg, initiated a major project dedicated to preserving the historical memory of the events of 1941-1944 in the city on the Neva. More than 250 people responded to the call to share memories of that time, providing about 3,000 documents for digitization.

Presidential Library presents childhood memories of the siege

Lyudmila Zemskova, the resident of St. Petersburg, was among hundreds of people, who responded to the call of the Presidential Library to share documents about the siege. Her grandmother's sister, Valentina Lyubova, who was a head teacher at school No. 105 in Leningrad all through the war, wrote a memoir of heroism of teachers and kept safe the essays that schoolchildren wrote in the besieged city.

Korney Chukovsky. From early childhood and for the entire life

Nikolai Vasilyevich Korneychukov (Chukovsky’s name) was born in St. Petersburg on March 31, 1882 in an unlawful marriage of the maid Katerina Korneychukova and the son of the owner, medical student Emanuel Levenson. Shortly after the birth of a son, the young man married a woman of his circle. A mother with two children had to leave, and the writer’s childhood passed in Odessa.

The Presidential Library’s webinar spotlighted "the golden age of childhood"

On May 31, 2023 the online webinar "The Golden Age of Childhood" was broadcast on the Presidential Library's portal, which presented the most interesting materials from the library's collections regarding the transformation of the perception of childhood in the 19th century. The event was timed to coincide with Children's Day, which is celebrated on June 1.

May 15, 2018 marks the 220th anniversary of one of the leaders of the uprising on the Senatskaya Square on December 14, 1825, a member of the secret society "Union of Prosperity", a lyceum student of the first issue Ivan Ivanovich Pushchin. "My first friend, my priceless friend! .." A. S. Pushkin wrote a poem dedicated to him. And this title of "priceless friend" the closest companion of the poet from the Lyceum times confirmed his whole life.
