On June 7 (19), 1899 Nikolai II approved the Monetary Regulations which completed the currency reform effectuated by Finance Minister S. Yu. Vitte. As a result, the Russian ruble became completely convertible in gold.

The National Endowment for the Humanities is awarding the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore a $265,000 grant to digitize, catalog and distribute 113 medieval Flemish manuscripts, including a collection of prayer books adorned with gold.

The State Historical Museum (Moscow) will launch a new mobile app with an audio guide before the year is out. The new service will feature over 200 audio files dedicated to unique exhibits, including the famous Galich city hoard with its animal figurines, Alexander II’s pen, Ivan the Terrible’s sackcloth (hair-shirt), Prince Vladimir’s gold coin and many other things.
