On March 3, 2011, the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS)—the Library of Congress’ talking-book and Braille program—will celebrate 80 years of helping visually impaired and physically handicapped individuals enjoy reading their favorite books and magazines.

December 27, 1990 a decree by the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR № 606 "On the establishment of the Russian Rescue Corps as the RSFSR State Committee, as well as the formation of a unified state and social system of forecasting, prevention and emergency response" was adopted. In April 1991 the head of the Rescue Corps was appointed Major-General Sergei Shoigu, who is currently head of the Russian Ministry of emergency situations.

The exhibition “1818+. The 200-Year History of Goznak” is open in the Peter and Paul Fortress through the end of December 2018. On display are banknotes, coins and prizes, as well as postage stamps with sketches, and books, illustrated by prominent artists of that time, including those who worked at the Expedition of Storing State Papers (Goznak since 1919).
