On October 10, 2017, in the Presidential Library there will be public video lecturing from the “Knowledge of Russia” series focused on the “Domestic lexicographic traditions.” The event, organized jointly with the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, will begin at 2 pm MSK and will be aired live on the Presidential Library website.

On January 7 Orthodox Christians celebrate one of their main holidays - Christmas. This day ends the time of New Year's festivities, and until 1918, when the Gregorian calendar was adopted in Russia, the Orthodox holiday of the Nativity of Christ was celebrated on December 25, and a series of New Year's holidays began with Christmas. It was for Christmas in the Russian Empire that it was customary to decorate a Christmas tree.

Konstantin Konstantinovich Sluchevsky was born on July 26 (August 7), 1837 in St. Petersburg in the family of a senator. In 1855, he graduated from the Cadet Corps, served in the Guard. From 1859, he studied at the Academy of the General Staff. In 1861, he quit the military service and entered Heidelberg University (Germany), where he studied natural history. In 1865, he got the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

On May 20, 1942 by the Decree of the Supreme Soviet Presidium of the USSR was established the Order of the Patriotic War of two classes. It was the very first award instituted during the Great Patriotic War and the first Soviet order that had classes division.
