In the year of the 200th anniversary of the Waterloo and the Congress of Vienna the State Hermitage Museum (Saint-Petersburg) presents in the Exhibition Center “Hermitage-Amsterdam” the exhibition, dedicated to the main characters of that era, - Alexander and Napoleon.

IT and Archives abroad: UK National Archives helps open up valuable archive collections

Access to 12 archive collections is set to be transformed by a series of new grants. The National Cataloguing Grants Programme 2011 has awarded £420,000 to archives across the UK to help make these vitally important collections fully accessible for the first time.

Yakov Petrovich Polonsky was born on December 6 (18), 1819, in Ryazan. The poet's father, Pyotr Grigorievich Polonsky, was a clerk in the office of Ryazan Governor-General A. D. Balashov. In 1819, he married Natalya Yakovlevna Kaftyreva, a descendant of an ancient noble family. Yakov Petrovich Polonsky was the eldest child in the family.
