Presidential Library spotlights one-and-a-half-ton siege trucks, ambulances and trams

As part of a campaign, launched in an effort to collect materials about the siege, the Presidential Library has received 2,000 documents. One war-time photograph shows a Leningrad resident Ivan Shalberov leaning against GAZ-AA truck - the legendary one-and-a-half-ton truck (‘polutorka’), which transported many goods during the Great Patriotic War.

On July 3, the last part of a unique library of the family of Polevye arrived from the United States in the Irkutsk Humanitarian Center, named in honor of the legendary dynasty. 600 boxes of humanitarian aid contain 11,769 books in different languages and about 18,000 periodicals.

Specialists from the Crimean Regional Centre of the Presidential Library, based on Franco Crimean Republican Universal Scientific Library, organized an educational event called S. Novikov: Winner of the Great Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Sciences Named After M. Lomonosov. The event took place as part of the Long Live Russian Science! cycle and was timed to coincide with the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

On August 1 (July 19, according to the old style), the Orthodox celebrate the uncovering of the relics of St. Seraphim, the Wonderworker of Sarov. “My joy, hello, Christ is risen!” - this is how the elder met everyone who came to him, for everyone he found guidance, wise advice, and he himself performed spiritual feats unthinkable for the laity, was constantly in prayer. He became a saint for Orthodox Christians long before his official canonization in 1903.
