The Presidential Library ahead of the next anniversary of the beginning of the siege of Leningrad illustrates the story of Galina Mikhailovna Sirota (born 1931) and her mother - Evdokiya Alexandrovna Braginskaya (1911–1993) This amazing story of a typical Soviet family of that time is available in the electronic library’s section, which includes diaries and personal archives collected during the campaign marking the 75th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi siege.

280 years ago, on May 6, 1742, Empress Elizabeth, the youngest and beloved daughter of Peter the Great, solemnly ascended the Russian throne. The evidence of why she made changes to the coronation ceremony, how the crowned parent affectionately called her daughter and what the era of her reign was remembered for is available in the materials of the Elizabeth Petrovna (1709–1761) collection on the Presidential Library’s portal.

ScanSafe company experts have registered a massive hackers’ attack which affected thousands of websites. A preliminary investigation proved that malefactors implant their own HTML code to the web-pages which redirects users to harmful resources.

In 2011 the Federal Archival Agency (Federal Archives) of Russia returned some 6,000 historical documents, which for different reasons turned out abroad, announced the Head of the Federal Archival Agency Andrei Artizov at the meeting of the Federal Archival Agency’s Board on March 14 2012.

The British Library is making digital copies of more than 40,000 classic books available for the iPad. Texts appear in fully digitised form, complete with original page markings and drawings, as opposed to the plain formatting associated with other types of e-books.

Forty years ago the librarians at the Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville (USA) began an ambitious and arduous task. As the library collected books full of biographical information on famous and not-so-famous Tennesseans, the staff began creating a printed index of everyone mentioned in the books as a reference tool for researchers, scholars and anyone interested.

Vatican signed an agreement with the Japanese company NTT DATA about digitization of 82 thousand manuscripts stored in the Apostolic Library of the Holy See.

Komi Republic ordered 100 thousand of ribbons of St. George. It is 40 thousand less than last year but the number should satisfy the requirements of municipalities, said Komi Republic Head Adviser Alexander Pasechnik.
Республика Коми заказала 100 тысяч георгиевских ленточек. Это на 40 тысяч меньше, чем в прошлом... количества в 100 тысяч будет вполне достаточно. Отрадно, что в этом году ленточки заказывают... не только все 20 муниципалитетов (в среднем, по 8 тысяч лент), но и частные предприятия. Распространять...Республика Коми заказала 100 тысяч георгиевских ленточек.
