The Smithsonian’s National Anthropological Archives has received a $323,000 “Save America’s Treasures” grant from the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. The grant will ensure long-term preservation and better access to the Archives’ endangered-languages manuscripts.

A new exhibition "Nizhny Novgorod in Engravings and Maps" will mark the 800th anniversary of the capital city on the Volga. It will feature maps of this region, beginning from the XVII century, foreign memoirs about Nizhny Novgorod, the first map of the Volga of 1659 and the first detailed map of the European part of the Russian Empire (12 square meters in size). All documents were provided by Vyacheslav Khurtin, who has been collecting them over a dozen years.

The exposition of the house was created by the specialists of the museum-reserve with the participation of the Zaans Museum. The Kolomenskaya copy reproduces in a true size the House in Zaandam, where Peter I arrived in August 1697 and where he lived for 8 days, studying shipbuilding at a local shipyard.

During the preparation works on restoration of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration in Pereslavl Zalessky researchers found the personal seal of the Ecumenical Patriarch Athanasios I.
