According to legend, in the Middle Ages, the holy silverless brothers Cosmas and Damian lived on the site of the monastery, who treated people with water from the holy spring. The construction of the monastery began after the end of the Crimean War in 1857. The monastery was often visited by members of the imperial family. In 1923, the monastery was closed and transferred to the Crimean Nature Reserve. During the Great Patriotic War, almost all the monastery buildings were destroyed, only the chapel above the spring survived. Currently, the Cosmo-Damian monastery has been revived.
