The Presidential Library’s video lecture to be devoted to Mikhail Bulgakov’s 130th anniversary

On July 9, 2021, at 11:00 Moscow time, the Presidential Library will host a video lecture entitled "Mikhail Bulgakov: Writer, Playwright and Era" as part of the Knowledge of Russia project. The event is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of the classic of Russian literature.

The video lecture is free. The meeting will be broadcast live on the Presidential Library's portal in Live broadcasts section in accordance with the live events program and on the institution's YouTube channel.

Mikhail Bulgakov was born on May 15, 1891. After graduating from the medical faculty of Kiev University in 1916 (today the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev), he took up medical practice, in which he achieved considerable success. However, his world fame was brought by his writing activity: among the famous works - The Master and Margarita, Heart of a Dog, White Guard, Notes of a Young Doctor and others.

Within the framework of the video lecture, Dmitry Bogach, Candidate of Philology, Senior Researcher of the South Ural State Humanitarian and Pedagogical University, will speak about the life path of Mikhail Bulgakov and his philosophical searches reflected in his oeuvre. Participants of the event will learn what life values ​​the writer were and how they were shown through the heroes of his works.

The methodologist of the scientific and educational department of the Presidential Library, Anton Druzhevsky, will tell about historical events that were reflected in the works of Mikhail Bulgakov. He will analyze the image of the first Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible in the writer's works.

The Presidential Library’s materials illustrate Fyodor Dostoevsky. The institution’s portal features author's thesis dedicated to his oeuvre.

Entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: for media representatives - through entrance № 2, participants and guests of the event - through entrance № 1.

In order to reduce the risks of the spread of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the use of personal protective equipment during the event is mandatory for all attendees.
