The film “Unique A. I. Marinesko" to be watched and discussed at the Presidential Library

29 January 2018

January 29, 2018 at 16:00 in the Presidential Library will be held a regular meeting of the cinema club, timed to the 105th anniversary of the birth and the 55th anniversary of the death of the commander of the legendary submarine S-13 Alexander Ivanovich Marinesko. The program includes showing and discussion of the film "Unique A. I. Marinesko". A full-length documentary tape will be presented by the author, director Alexander Sorokin.

At the beginning of the film, one of the experts, a professor at the St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Konstantin Shilov, noted that it was little known about Alexander Marinesko, while for the post-war generations this name was cultic. What happened to the legendary submariner, why his fate was changed so drastically in peacetime?

These and other uneasy questions of the film of Alexander Sorokin, based, among other things, on military newsreels, memories of the last surviving sailor from the submarine S-13, the reflections of scientists and sailors of our days will be put before the audience

The central episode of the film was the feat of Marinesko. January 30, 1945 submarine S-13 under his command sent to the bottom of the German superliner "Wilhelm Gustloff", and on February 10, 1945 - the ship "General von Steuben". On both ships there were, according to various sources, from 8 to 10 thousand people.

For these attacks, the captain of the third rank Marinesko was presented to the title of "Hero of the Soviet Union". However, he was already awarded posthumously. In 1945, Marinesko was sent into retirement, and he did not return to the fleet. Who was behind the denigration of the fearless, beloved crew captain?

The answers to these questions will be given by the daughter of the submariner Tatiana Marinesko and the experts invited by the director.
