The Presidential Library: New acquisitions

The holdings of the Presidential Library have been enriched with copies of documents, provided by the V. Ya. Shishkov Altai Regional Universal Research Library.

A brief essay of the Altai district of the Cabinet of His Imperial Majesty (St. Petersburg, 1896) M. I. Strukov describes the geography of the region, its population, industries (agriculture, animal husbandry, beekeeping) and industry (mining, gold mining, salt business, stone production, manufacturing).

The description of the nature of the Altai and the life of indigenous peoples of the region are represented in the publication of a Naturalist V. I. Vereshchagin Essays of Altai (Novosibirsk, 1927).

The geological description of the Altai and the study of its mineral resources are covered in the following books: Materials on General and Applied Geology. Issue 70. The study of the Altai ore in the reflected light (L., 1927), Materials on General and Applied Geology. Issue 77. Lazursky and Chagirsky mines in the Altai (L., 1928), Bogdanov D. P. Materials for geology of the Altai (M., 1911) Mamontov V. N. Analysis of the Altai mining district produced in the Barnaul laboratory from 1884 to 1905 (Barnaul, 1907).

The history of the development of the mining of Altai, its mineral resources are described in the book of L. Maleyev The Altai mining district (St. Petersburg, 1909) and in the Brief Historical essay of the Altai district: (1747-897) (St. Petersburg, 1897).

Materials for the study of natural productive forces of the USSR, published by the Commission of the Academy of Sciences. № 76: White coal of Altai (Leningrad, 1930) are tabulated data on water resources of the region, which are a rich source of energy.

Barometric observations of Altai regions are represented in the book by G. K. Tyumentsev Altitude of Altai areas calculated by G. K. Tyumentsev according to data by V. I. Vereshchagin (Barnaul, 1911).

The article of V. I. Vereshchagin Altai as a region of educational excursions (Novonikolaevsk, 1925) provides practical guidance for the device study tours to Altai as well as natural-historical description of routes that are most suitable for excursions.

The book by B. A. Keller Through valleys and mountains of Altai = In Berg und Thal des Altai. V. 1 (Kazan, 1914) presents the botanical-geographic research, carried out by the General resettlement management ob the subject of adequacy of Biysk and Zmeinogorsk districts of the Tomsk region for agriculture. 

Collection “Issues of colonization” № 4 (St. Petersburg), № 5 (St. Petersburg, 1911), № 10 (St. Petersburg), № 18 (St. Petersburg) highlights a wide range of issues of common problems of colonization policy and socio-economic development of the populated areas to the individual questions of the organization resettlement movement, financial support persons, land management, and the life and activities of the local population.

Development of agricultural machinery at the beginning of the XX century is reflected in the Report of the Board of the Altai Agricultural Society on the device of competition machines for harvesting grain crops and grasses, the former near Barnaul on 12-15 August 1903 (Barnaul, 1904).

The book by S. Landyshev Altai Spiritual Mission (M., 1864) tells of the missionaries, sent on behalf of the Holy Synod in 1828 for the treatment of the pagan tribes of the Altai in the Christian faith.
