World history: Exhibition “Mary Stuart – Queen of Scotland” in Saint-Petersburg
February 1, 2013 in the new building of the National library of Russia as part of the Days of Scotland in Saint-Petersburg is opening the book-illustrative exhibition “Mary Stuart – Queen of Scotland”.
The exhibition at the NLR features unique historical documents and works of art, dedicated to the Mary Stuart, her era and contemporaries, the earliest of which are dated to the 16th century.
A special place among the exhibits takes copies of original letters and prayer of Mary Stuart, with which in February 1587 already dethroned and sentenced to the death the Queen stood on the scaffold.
Among the exhibits are copies of maps of England, France, Scotland and Denmark from the Dutch atlas, published during the life of Mary Stuart, the copy of lifetime portrait of Mary Stuart from the collection of the State hermitage Museum, books and journals in English and French.
The exhibition is held as part of the Days of Culture of Scotland in St. Petersburg for more than 40 years opening the calendar of international events in our city. Days are held annually in Scotland by the National Library of Russia jointly with the Committee on Foreign Relations of St. Petersburg, the St. Petersburg Forum (Scotland), and a variety of cultural institutions, universities and schools in the city with the support of the Consulate General of Great Britain in St. Petersburg.
