The Presidential Library and “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” are implementing new projects

On April 12, 2018, the presentation of the new, fourth issue of the popular science and history magazine “Rodina” was held at the Presidential Library. The authors of the publication, representatives of the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta", employees and guests of the libraries of the Ryazan region, Simferopol, Yekaterinburg, Syktyvkar, Perm, Chelyabinsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Ufa, Samara and Voronezh, as well as the Military Equipment Museum "Battle Glory of the Urals" in the city of Verkhnyaya Pyshma (Sverdlovsk region) and the South-Russian Institute of Management of the Russian Academy of Science and Technology in Rostov-on-Don participated in the video conferencing mode.

One of the materials of the April issue is dedicated to the journalistic auto expedition "From the Baltic to the Arctic". It was organized by the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" and the news agency BNK with the information participation of the "Rodina" and was held in February this year. Participants of the expedition traveled from St. Petersburg to Pustozersk - more than 6 thousand kilometers through six regions of the Russian North-West. Travelers overcame a considerable number of trials, met many amazing people, made a number of stunning discoveries. Bright impressions, in particular, left the northern museums, where in modest expositions amazing artifacts are collected: the whale's vertebrae painted with biblical subjects, a fragment of a ski of 8 thousand years old, unique pre-revolutionary Komi calendar and much more. According to co-organizer of the expedition and its participant, director of the North-West branch of the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" Anzhelika Gurskaya, the work is now underway to publish the on-board journal of the expedition, which will be handed over for digitization to the Presidential Library. In addition, a multimedia exhibition dedicated to this trip is planned in the Senatskaya Square building.

April issue of “Rodina” was presented by the editor-in-chief of the publication, Igor Kots, deputy editor-in-chief of “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”. This issue is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Alexander II, for the abolition of serfdom entered into Russian history under the name of Liberator. The reader will learn about the Great Reform of the Sovereign, thanks to which for 25 years the country has been radically changed, about their consequences.

A large number of materials are devoted to the private life of the emperor - his relationship in the family, a hobby. The latter include, for example, the tsar’s enthusiasm for military equipment: he himself created detailed drawings, which today are the most valuable source on the history of the Russian military suit. The magazine also publishes photographs of the imperial family from the Russian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents, where you can see Alexander II and his family members in different places and circumstances.

Among the heroes of other publications - engineer Peter Pertsov, publisher August Semyon, the hero of our time Vladislav Smirnov, schoolchildren of Tambov village Glazok, most recently glorified his Little Motherland all over the country, poets Yuri Sopov and Alexander Tsaryov and many others.

From the new issue of the historical edition, the reader also learns what the film "Three poplars on Plyushchikha" has become for all of us, which appeared 50 years ago, how the Soviet government fought against the beloved temple of Russian students, whether sales of the beginning of the XX century differ from the current ones, will find answers on the main questions about the legendary Russian bath and many other interesting information. The traditional rubric "Homeland Cuisine" in April is devoted to hunting, its history and traditions and offers to cook dinner according to ancient hunting recipes.

Presentations of the latest issues of the popular science and history magazine “Rodina” are held monthly in the Senatskaya Square building, 3 since April 2017, as part of a cooperation agreement between the Presidential Library and the “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”. Other joint events include video lectures with the authors of the history magazine “Rodina”, multimedia exhibitions dedicated to the publication. Digitized copies of the popular science and history magazine also systematically enrich the electronic collections of the Presidential Library.
