14 April 2018

April 14 (April 3 in the Julian calendar) 2018 marks 156th anniversary of the birth of Pyotr Arkadievich Stolypin, one of the largest statesmen of Russia at the end of the XIX and early XX century, which had a great influence on the development of the Russian state. He is devoted to a separate electronic collection on the portal of the Presidential Library, which includes a large number of various materials, thanks to which the reader has the opportunity to get familiar with the personality of P. A. Stolypin and, of course, to explore his state activities, starting from the very first steps of the service for the benefit Russia.

The central part of the large-scale collection is archival materials from the P. A. Stolypin Foundation, which is stored in the Russian State Historical Archive. The Fund is the most complete collection of documents related to the life and activities of P. A. Stolypin, which, among other things, he himself collected during his life. The Foundation includes more than 330 cases, dated 1803-1912 years, among which are notes by P. A. Stolypin, his speeches, bills, references and other materials concerning the activities of the State Duma, the Finnish question, the struggle against student unrest, relations between Russia and Japan and many another.

The documents relating to the private side of life of P. A. Stolypin are of particular interest. For example, "Certificate - an extract from the metric book of the Dresden Orthodox Church on the birth of P. A. Stolypin April 2, 1862", "Statement of progress of pupils of the gymnasium of the city of Orel. P. A. Stolypin - one of the pupils", "Certificate of maturity issued to P. A. Stolypin by the gymnasium of the city of Orel", "Diploma of the graduation of St. Petersburg University and conferring the title of candidate issued to P. A. Stolypin".

In addition to the official ones, the collection also contains personal documents of Pyotr Arkadievich. Researchers will probably be interested in "flip through" on the portal of the Presidential Library "P. A. Stolypin's Notebook for recording personal expenses", where the largest statesman of Russia recorded his expenses and incomes. This, in fact, is a civil servants’ declaration, only compiled long before the time when their filling became mandatory.

"Stolypin's album (menu, program of concerts and performances)" tells us about where and when Stolypin visited, what theatrical productions he attended, which composers he singled out, and besides, gives an idea of his taste preferences.

P. A. Stolypin was a caring husband and father. Evidence of this is his letters to his wife, which he often, sometimes several times a day, sent out of trips. "My beloved sweetheart. I just arrived, got a little decomposed, and before going to my haircut and breakfast, I sat down to write to You, so that the letter would be delivered even today", - Stolypin wrote on March 1, 1904. A week later: "My darling, I am writing briefly, since I see the end of my pelerations soon, I will soon embrace you. You're so tired with the call, my beloved, and Knoll says and Ara writes that You are so sad".

The section "Graphic Materials" includes numerous photographs of the amicable family of the Prime Minister of the Russian Empire. Home, non-parade are presented in the "Photos of P. A. Stolypin and his family members", the official ones are included in the album "Pyotr Arkadievich Stolypin". This unique edition includes more than 100 photographs depicting a statesman in very different situations: in the circle of relatives and friends, in the service, during official receptions, etc.

The activities of Pyotr Arkadyevich Stolypin, who embodied his reforms with an iron hand, did not find approval from a certain part of the population of the Russian Empire. His life was constantly threatened, as, for example, "Letter from an anonymous author to Stolypin with a warning that he did not fly on airplanes", sent in September 1910. In total, in six years, ten attempts were made to kill the prime minister. A mortal wound struck in Kiev on September 5 (18), 1911, Dmitry Bogrov. He twice shot straight into the head of the government during the performance in the building of the Kiev Opera. This and previous incidents are described in detail by the materials of the electronic collection collected in the section "Attempts and Murder". In particular, the Presidential Library portal presents "Registration card of the Kiev gubernia gendarmerie administration on D. G. Bogrov" in 1911, "Entrance ticket to the solemn performance in the Kiev city theater, issued to D. G. Bogrov", "Note by D.G. Bogrov, found during the search", "Cuttings from St. Petersburg and Moscow newspapers with articles about the Kiev guard and service in it Bogrov".

The selection also includes materials testifying to the reaction of Russian society to a high-profile murder. In addition to numerous telegrams with condolences, here are presented "Book with musical works: 1) Kurnakov" To the death of the hero"; 2) Herschelmann's "Funeral March in Memory of Stolypin" and 3) Schwarzenberger's "March in Memory of Prime Minister P. A. Stolypin", "Book with Messages from the Fields of Stolypin's Response to Death", "Strelnikov's Poem "Stolypin"» and much more.
