14 June 2018

June classes for children and teenagers within Russian language courses at the Russian Cultural and Information Center in Sofia focused on 2018 World Cup that will take place in Russia. Children and their fathers found out football terms, learnt some of them, “commented" the match in Russian; talked about outstanding Russian football players and coaches, and the history of FIFA championships.

All students made a virtual tour around the cities that will host the world championship games, and "visited" the stadiums, where the matches will be held. This virtual journey gave a chance to discover the history and culture of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Saransk, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Nizhny Novgorod and Yekaterinburg.

In the classroom they discussed the meaning of symbols shown on the cup. Children liked wolf Zabivaka - the mascot of the World Cup - 2018 and enjoyed being photographed with him.

Children were impressed by short films, showing cosmonauts in space and miners underground playing football. All listened with great attention to the address of the President of Russia to the fans worldwide.

Having studied the championship’s schedule in detail, children argued who would be its winner, and now they are looking forward to the opening of the most momentous sporting event of the year.
