The Presidential Library has brought together poets of Russia

27 June 2018

Today, June 27, 2018, the Presidential Library hosted the presentation of the annual almanac "Poetry Day - XXI century. 2017". The event brought together the authors of the publication, well-known and beginning Russian poets and writers at once on three venues: in a building on Senate Square, in the information-educational center of the Presidential Library in Tyumen and the Reserve Center of the Presidential Library in Moscow.

President of the Lermontov Heritage Association, Laureate of the Government of Russia Mikhail Lermontov, opening the event, noted its social significance: "Today the almanac "Poetry Day - XXI Century" becomes a national treasure, as it accumulates the thoughts of our contemporaries who can "hear" future generations. The verses that are included in it, together create an environment of greatness of the Russian word through which a person communicates with the spiritual world and, thus, returns to himself".

The adviser to the governor of the Tyumen region, the winner of the literary award "Yugra", the poet Alexander Novopashin reminded that the Presidential Library, combining the regions through video conference calls, is not the first time a platform for the presentation of a poetic almanac - in 2016 it was presented "Poetry Day - XXI Century. 2015-16". "Thanks to these opportunities of the Presidential Library, being in different regions, we can hold a presentation, talk about poetry", - he said. Alexander Novopashin also thanked the authors of the almanac for the fact that the best creative forces of the Tyumen region were represented in this issue.

The participants of the event discussed a new issue of the almanac, the output of which waited almost two years, as well as the most important topics of concern for contemporary writers: the place of the poet in modern society, the role of poetic creativity for the development of our country's literature, and others. Each performance by private agreement was completed by reading their own works.

The famous poetic almanac "Poetry Day" was released in 1955. The works of poets Nikolai Zabolotsky and Pavel Vasiliev were published on its pages, while Marina Tsvetaeva's verses became available to a multimillion readership. In 1990, the almanac stopped existing and was only published again in 2006 under the title "Poetry Day - XXI Century".

In 2016, the Presidential Library presented anniversary issue, 10th edition of the almanac, which includes poems by over 100 poets from Russia, far and near abroad. This year "Poetry Day - XXI century. 2017" has collected more than 200 authors under its cover.
