Pupils of Penza Region learned about the Presidential Library’s collections

March 5, 2019 specialists of the regional center of access to the resources of the Presidential Library, which is running on the basis of the Lermontov Penza Regional Library, held a practical lesson for pupils of the seventh grade of school № 31.

The event started with a visit to the regional center of rare books and documents, where pupils were shown old editions, miniature books and folios, and were introduced to the literary heritage of Nikolai Gogol from the Lermontovka Foundation.

Then the seventh graders started learning the Presidential Library’s portal. Specialists of the electronic reading room told about the unique content of the national library, the principle of forming its fund, thematic collections, and taught teenagers how to use simple and advanced search.

Using the example of B. M. Sokolov's rare book “Gogol-ethnographer: (N. Gogol’s interests and lessons in ethnography)”, published in 1910, pupils learned how to page through books on the portal, how to increase or decrease the scale.

The regional center’s specialists also told the pupils about the Russia in the Electronic World Interactive Olympiad, which is held annually by the Presidential Library for pupils of 10-11 grades.

The Presidential Library’s portal features “Penza Region: Pages of History” collection.  It includes archival documents, essays, research and statistical materials covering demographic, geographic, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of the history of Penza Region of the late XVIII - first third of the XX century. The current Statute the region is provided.
