Methodological workshop for teachers of the Russian language held in Austria

A research and practical workshop was held for teachers of the Russian language of secondary educational institutions of the country on August 26–28, 2019 in the Austrian city of Schlierbach. The main topic of the event was the features of promoting the Russian language through culture: theater and music.

Valentina Shevergina, Head of the Russian Language Department of the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Vienna, talked about the Russian language courses at the RCSC, educational and youth projects, as well as events planned for the Russia-Austria Cross Year of Theater and Literature. 

As part of the seminar, Austrian teachers shared their experiences in running theater studios in Russian. Participants of the event discussed prospects of interaction, teachers from the RCSC fund traditionally received textbooks by the beginning of the school year.

Experts noted that familiarity with literary works and other materials in the language being studied plays an important role in the educational process. Such publications are presented in the electronic collections of the Presidential Library dedicated to famous writers and poets of Russia: “Alexander Pushkin (1799–1837)”, “Mikhail Lermontov (1814–1841)”, “Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821–1881)”, “Leo Tolstoy (1828–1910)”, “Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893–1930)” and others.

Some of the materials of the electronic collections of the Presidential Library are available on the Internet portal. They include information resources of the largest digital repository in remote access centers running in different countries of the world. One of them has been underway at the RCSC in Vienna since 2017.

People learning Russian can also take part in the Olympiad of the Presidential Library “Russia in the Electronic World”. A new subject of the Olympiad “Russian as a Foreign Language” is starting this academic year. Detailed information about the project is available on the Presidential Library’s portal.
