A round table held in Yekaterinburg

5 December 2019

A round table "Urban narrative: personal stories and collective memory" was held in the regional center of the Presidential Library at the Belinsky Sverdlovsk Regional Universal Research Library as part of the Yekaterinburg Book Festival. The next round table was devoted to the recollections of personal stories from the point of view of understanding the semantic space of the city.

How do personal stories help you hear the city? How informative, truthful, accurate, honest are the recollections of eyewitnesses? Is it possible to create an entire project on their basis? And if so, how? These and other issues were discussed by experts with the guests of the round table.

At the beginning of the debate was shown an art video, created by the team of the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the anniversary of the organization: the staff reads the famous poem by Alexander Tvardovsky, “The Urals - the support edge of the state ...”. The given leitmotif of the connection between the personal and the public, the country and the family, became the core of the whole discussion. Experts recalled situations from practice, and, ultimately, the discussion itself turned into a relay of touching and amazing personal stories.

At the end of the event, the guests were briefly presented with the opportunities of the Presidential Library with an emphasis on the benefits of transferring digital copies of their own scientific and research publications to its collection.

The Presidential Library’s portal features Sverdlovsk Region: Pages of History collection which includes various historical aspects of the region: geographical, demographic, socio-economic and socio-political.
