The heroes of besieged Leningrad commemorated in Argentina

The Russian Center of Science and Culture in Buenos Aires inaugurated a photo exhibition dedicated to the siege of Leningrad. The event was attended by Russian compatriots, Argentinean students, representatives of the local community and the diplomatic corps. The guest of honor of the evening was the new Ambassador of Argentina to Russia, Alicia Castro.

The meeting was addressed by doctor of historical sciences (University of Sorbonne I), master of history (Moscow State University), director of the Center for the Study of the Slavic World of the National University of San Martin, specialist in social and political history of Russia Claudio Sergio Ingerflom. He noted the heroism of the residents of besieged Leningrad, who in the difficult days of isolation not only defended the city, but also protected its cultural heritage.

A documentary based on the recollections of one of the siege survivors of Leningrad was shown in Spanish, and then the guests of the center got the opportunity to learn more about the exhibits of the photo exhibition.

The Presidential Library’s portal features Memory of the Great Victory as well as The Defence and Siege of Leningrad electronic collections. They include a wide variety of materials: official documents, photographs and newsreels, wartime newspapers, books, publications of a propaganda nature, collections of articles and biographies, testimonies of participants in combat battles and rear workers, their personal documents and much more.

The Presidential Library features only part of the materials from the electronic collections. The library’s information resources are available at the remote access centers in different countries of the world. Today, the possibility of opening such a center on the basis of the RCSC in Buenos Aires is being considered.
