
International Scientific and Practical Conference on Combating New Coronavirus Infection held at the Presidential Library
The Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library hosted an International Scientific and Practical Conference on Combating New Coronavirus Infection and Other Infectious Diseases on December 9-10, 2020 in St. Petersburg.
The meeting of experts in the field of epidemiology, virology, immunology and biotechnology was organized in order to strengthen international cooperation in the fight against the new coronavirus infection, the development of scientific exchange and the national potential of partner countries in combating infectious diseases.
At the conference, scientists shared their experience in the fight against the new coronavirus infection and other infectious diseases. In addition, within the framework of the event, it was planned to develop recommendations for improving epidemiological surveillance, as well as determine the prospects for further limiting the spread of COVID-19.
Opening the conference, Anna Popova, head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Russian Federation, read out the words of greetings from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, in which, in particular, it is noted that “scientists, doctors, health and epidemiological officials are at the forefront of the fight against the largest COVID-19 pandemic in decades. Russia is fully prepared for the broadest possible interaction with foreign partners in the anti-epidemiological area, for the exchange of accumulated experience in prevention and treatment".
Greetings were also voiced by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Igor Vladimirovich Morgulov and the WHO representative.
The conference brought together almost 200 participants from 22 countries of the world, who worked both in full-time mode and via videoconferencing mode.
The conference was also attended by representatives of WHO, government authorities, leading experts in the fight against epidemics. Anna Popova stressed that in the context of a pandemic of a new coronavirus infection, the exchange of experience between specialists from different countries is certainly extremely relevant, and Russia is open for such cooperation.
Following the results of the conference, the participants prepared a Resolution.
The conference has been organized by the Federal Service for Surveillance of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, the “Microbe” Russian Research Anti-Plague Institute of Rospotrebnadzor, the St. Petersburg Pasteur Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology at Rospotrebnadzor.
