The Presidential Library to join the All-Russian contest of military history projects

The Presidential Library will join the All-Russian contest for the best project for holding events dedicated to significant dates in Russian military history.

The main objectives of the contest are to identify and support the best projects, encourage the activities of Russian libraries aimed at promoting the study of Russian military history and ensuring the promotion of the achievements of military history, as well as preserving the historical truth about the heroic past of our Fatherland. The winners of the All-Russian contest for the best project for holding events dedicated to significant dates in Russian military history will be announced on September 17, 2021.

The Presidential Library will submit to the contest an exhibition project “There will be ships for sea!”: marking the 325th anniversary of the founding of the Navy and the 115th anniversary of the founding of the Russian submarine fleet. The exposition will be open at the Presidential Library from October 18, 2021 to January 23, 2022. The exhibition will tell about the past, present and future of the Russian fleet in general and the submarine fleet in particular.

The exhibition will feature documents from the electronic collections of the Presidential Library and the Russian State Archive of the Navy, printed publications and visual materials from the Central Naval Library, the Information Historical and Scientific Center "Military Historical Library of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation", Gorky Scientific Library of St. Petersburg State University. The exhibits spotlighting the history and current state of the Russian submarine fleet will be provided by the museums of shipbuilding enterprises that are part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (Admiralty Shipyards, Proletarsky Zavod, Baltiyskiy Zavod, Central Design Bureau Rubin, Malakhit).

In November 2021, a virtual tour of the exhibition “There will be ships for sea!”: marking the 325th anniversary of the founding of the Navy and the 115th anniversary of the founding of the Russian submarine fleet” will be available on the Presidential Library’s portal.

The organizer of the All-Russian contest for the best project for holding events dedicated to significant dates in Russian military history is the Russian Military Historical Society.

The Russian Military Historical Society has been created in accordance with the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in December 2012 in order to consolidate the forces of the state and society in the study of the military-historical past of Russia, to facilitate the study of Russian military history and counter attempts to distort it, to ensure the popularization of the achievements of military-historical science, raising the prestige of military service and fostering patriotism. Sergei Ivanov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport, is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Military Historical Society. The Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society is Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Medinsky.
