Penza schoolchildren thanks to the Presidential Library’s collections learned how their agemates studied in olden times

September 1, 2001 specialists of the Regional Center of Access to the Resources of the Presidential Library based on the Lermontov Penza Regional Library prepared a lesson School of our ancestors for primary school students of school № 73.

The event was based on practical assignments. Schoolchildren solved arithmetic problems, guessed the meaning of old words. The children were shown old alphabets, textbooks and other unique books of past centuries from the Presidential Library’s collections, for example, Karion Istomin's primer, published at the end of the 17th century and also introduced to the ancient folk game Bird and cells.

The collection Penza Region: Pages of History is available on the Presidential Library’s portal. It involves archival documents, essays, studies and statistical materials that spotlight the demographic, geographical, socio-economic, socio-political and other aspects of the history of Penza Region at the end of the 18th - first third of the 20th century.
