Chelyabinsk Regional Universal Scientific Library has become a platform for the Day of Heroes of Tankograd

Marking the Day of Heroes of Tankograd, October 6, the staff of the Regional Center of the Presidential Library based on the Chelyabinsk Regional Universal Scientific Library hosted an event dedicated to the Day of Heroes of Tankograd.

War veterans and home front workers were awarded the title of "Honorary Veteran of the city of Chelyabinsk". Among the invited veterans were real heroes. So, Alexandra Dmitrievna Belozerova was 18 years old when the Great Patriotic War began. She went to the front as a volunteer. Liya Fominichna Skorodumova at the age of 12 stood at the machine at the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant.

War veterans and home front workers were congratulated by the director of the library Natalya Diskaya, the chairman of the Chelyabinsk City Duma Andrei Shmidt, the chairman of the Committee for Social Development of the city of Chelyabinsk Larisa Moshkova, the chairman of the Council of Veterans of the city of Chelyabinsk Valentin Buravlyov. Pupils of the city schools came to honor the veterans. It was with great pleasure that the participants of the meeting got acquainted with the book exhibition dedicated to the labor feat of the people of South Urals during the war. The staff of the Regional Center of the Presidential Library prepared a series of videos marking the 75th anniversary of the Victory under the general title "Tankograd - a city that was not on the map", two of them entered the collections of the Presidential Library.

It was the youth of Tankograd who for the first time in the country decided to raise money for a tank column. At the war, 60 military formations went to the front from Chelyabinsk Region.

The feat of the Tankograd people became an example of true patriotism, courage, hard work and self-sacrifice.

A wide range of materials about the heroes, military actions of the Second World War is available in the Collection of digitized archival documents, film and photo materials World War II in Archival Documents, which is available on the Presidential Library’s portal. Today the Collection contains about 5.5 thousand digitized archival documents, photographs and newsreels. The work on the identification and declassification of archival documents, their digitization and placement as part of the Complex will continue in 2022.
