Contest "My Peter I" waiting for new participants

21 October 2022

Acceptance of entries for the contest of readers' essays "My Peter I" continues. The contest is held by the All-Russian literary and art magazine for schoolchildren Kostyor together with the Presidential Library and is dedicated to the 350th anniversary of the birth of the first Russian emperor.

Any pupil under the age of 17 has opportunity to take part in the contest regardless of the region of residence. A prerequisite is the use of materials from the collections of the Presidential Library. To date, dozens of papers have already been sent to the editorial office of the journal. The most interesting of them Kostyor publishes on its pages.

“The tsar had a lot of things to do and there were no days off. Just imagine, he founded the whole city in which I now live, - St. Petersburg. Tsar Peter I was a master of all trades, he could do a lot himself, even built ships. He was also very modest”, - writes six-year-old Ilya Tsvetkov.

Eight-grader Apollinaria Solenikova in her essay thanks the tsar for bringing potatoes and other exotic plants into the country at that time: “In 1706, the first botanical garden was created in Moscow. At first it was called the “Aptekarsky Garden”, because medicinal plants were grown in it. The garden has survived to this day. The same “Aptekarsky Garden” Peter I established in St. Petersburg in 1714. Medicinal plants began to complement rare and simply interesting.

A cadet from Krasnodar, Gleb Melnik, asks a joking question: “Why did the tsar need to issue a decree according to which subjects were to consider gophers as ferrets?” Having learned about the life and exploits of the emperor Gleb calls him "inimitably great".

Entries are accepted until November 15, 2022. Essays must be sent with the note “To the contest “My Peter I”” to root@kostyor.ru. The contest results will be summed up in January 2023. The submitted works will be published in the first issue of the Kostyor magazine, on the publication’s website and on the Kostyor page on the VKontakte social network. The winners will be awarded diplomas and book prizes.
